TRiO, Lent, and more

TRIO

Today, my day started with a meeting at with TRiO. If you haven’t heard of TRiO, it’s a government-funded program that supports students with academic services. I signed up with at the beginning of the yea,r and I am really glad I did! The TRiO staff is very helpful and TRiO also provides first and second year students with a mentor. If you want information on the TRiO program check out the website here: http://www.sf.edu/sf/trio

Lent! This year for lent, I have given social networking websites! So far so good(then again, it has only been one day). I love this tradition, and even if your religion does not practice lent, I recommend anyone to participate!

I randomly stumbled on this video! Check it out, they made the backgrounds with jelly beans! :)

February Days…

Although it doesn’t feel like it, it’s already February! Lately, I feel like I never the date or day of the week! These past two weeks I have been seriously busy with classes!! Today I had two speeches and I am so happy I got them out-of-the-way early! One of the speeches was on procrastinating, something I have had a serious problem with lately! I did some research for my speech and found some pretty interesting and helpful ways to stop procrastinating :)

Here are some of the tips that have been helping me..

-Find a study spot. I found mine, I recently started studying in the student center, and I love it! Having a place to go to for studying is very helpful!

-Create an effective “To-Do” list. Making to to-do lists is something I’ve always done; however, I wasn’t making my lists realist or fun. Instead of making a detailed to-do list , make a daily list. Also, be sure to add a reward at the end of the list. Once you finish everything on the list, reward yourself.

-Log off any online accounts. Okay, this one is pretty difficult for me. I have way too many online accounts: Facebook, twitter, pinterest, tumblr..you get the picture. They easily distract me and waste so much of my time! Lately, I’ve been logging off the accounts completely to avoid wasting time, and if I don’t need the internet to complete an assignment, I disable my WiFi. The less convenient it is for me check, the more likely I am to stay off!!

I am so happy and excited that Sober Weekend starts tomorrow! This means ice-skating, movies, AND a toga party! I can’t wait!!

One last thought, check out this picture! I saw it on USF’s twitter and thought it was pretty sweet!

Pirate Murder Mystery!

I’ve never been much of an actress, but I definitely had a blast at SAC‘s Pirate Murder Mystery night! The event took place in Brookside, which was perfect for the theme. To my surprise, my character(Merciless Morgan) was the night’s victim! .This gave me the opportunity to sell my pirate secrets and win the prize for having the most money!! I ended up winning a gift card to Red Lobster!

Here are some picture of the night! :)

The Pirates!

Best dressed pirates!"

Thanks for the awesome snacks, AVI!

Chatting with a Transfer Student..

A good friend of mine recently transferred to USF, and I am thrilled  to see her more often!

Today, I decided to do a little interview with her about transfer college. Her name is Bobbi Jo, she is a commuter and currently a sophomore.

Q: Where did you transfer from?

A: I transferred from Ancilla College in Plymouth, Indiana

Q: What is your current major and what are your current career goal?

A: English and I’m still unsure

Q: Are you taking any English classes this semester?

A: Yes, I’m taking an advanced writing class and literature in the natural environment.

Q:What is your favorite type of writing?

A: I like poetry and creative writing!

Q:What do you like about USF so far?

A: The class sizes. The professors, they are so friendly and nice. Also, the help desk and library staff has been very helpful.

Q: Do you have any advice for students considering transferring schools?

A: Yes! First, don’t be afraid to talk and meet new people, you’ll be surprised at how many friends you can make. Also, be sure to research what credits will transfer and contact the school about what they will accept. If you need help ask questions. Don’t over think your first day! I was so nervous I went to my first class an extra 20 minutes early so I wouldn’t be lost. I quickly figured out the classes were next to each other and I didn’t get lost. Just relax!

Q: What are you looking forward to here at USF.

A: I cannot wait to write! I am looking forward to my English classes here.

If you are thinking about transferring to USF or are already here and want to transfer some credits, check out this link :) and thanks to Bobbi Jo for letting me interview her!
