February Days…

Although it doesn’t feel like it, it’s already February! Lately, I feel like I never the date or day of the week! These past two weeks I have been seriously busy with classes!! Today I had two speeches and I am so happy I got them out-of-the-way early! One of the speeches was on procrastinating, something I have had a serious problem with lately! I did some research for my speech and found some pretty interesting and helpful ways to stop procrastinating :)

Here are some of the tips that have been helping me..

-Find a study spot. I found mine, I recently started studying in the student center, and I love it! Having a place to go to for studying is very helpful!

-Create an effective “To-Do” list. Making to to-do lists is something I’ve always done; however, I wasn’t making my lists realist or fun. Instead of making a detailed to-do list , make a daily list. Also, be sure to add a reward at the end of the list. Once you finish everything on the list, reward yourself.

-Log off any online accounts. Okay, this one is pretty difficult for me. I have way too many online accounts: Facebook, twitter, pinterest, tumblr..you get the picture. They easily distract me and waste so much of my time! Lately, I’ve been logging off the accounts completely to avoid wasting time, and if I don’t need the internet to complete an assignment, I disable my WiFi. The less convenient it is for me check, the more likely I am to stay off!!

I am so happy and excited that Sober Weekend starts tomorrow! This means ice-skating, movies, AND a toga party! I can’t wait!!

One last thought, check out this picture! I saw it on USF’s twitter and thought it was pretty sweet!

Pirate Murder Mystery!

I’ve never been much of an actress, but I definitely had a blast at SAC‘s Pirate Murder Mystery night! The event took place in Brookside, which was perfect for the theme. To my surprise, my character(Merciless Morgan) was the night’s victim! .This gave me the opportunity to sell my pirate secrets and win the prize for having the most money!! I ended up winning a gift card to Red Lobster!

Here are some picture of the night! :)

The Pirates!

Best dressed pirates!"

Thanks for the awesome snacks, AVI!

Chatting with a Transfer Student..

A good friend of mine recently transferred to USF, and I am thrilled  to see her more often!

Today, I decided to do a little interview with her about transfer college. Her name is Bobbi Jo, she is a commuter and currently a sophomore.

Q: Where did you transfer from?

A: I transferred from Ancilla College in Plymouth, Indiana

Q: What is your current major and what are your current career goal?

A: English and I’m still unsure

Q: Are you taking any English classes this semester?

A: Yes, I’m taking an advanced writing class and literature in the natural environment.

Q:What is your favorite type of writing?

A: I like poetry and creative writing!

Q:What do you like about USF so far?

A: The class sizes. The professors, they are so friendly and nice. Also, the help desk and library staff has been very helpful.

Q: Do you have any advice for students considering transferring schools?

A: Yes! First, don’t be afraid to talk and meet new people, you’ll be surprised at how many friends you can make. Also, be sure to research what credits will transfer and contact the school about what they will accept. If you need help ask questions. Don’t over think your first day! I was so nervous I went to my first class an extra 20 minutes early so I wouldn’t be lost. I quickly figured out the classes were next to each other and I didn’t get lost. Just relax!

Q: What are you looking forward to here at USF.

A: I cannot wait to write! I am looking forward to my English classes here.

If you are thinking about transferring to USF or are already here and want to transfer some credits, check out this link :) and thanks to Bobbi Jo for letting me interview her!

Second Semester!

Hello!

Wow, Christmas break flew by and I’m now finished with my second week of classes! I have to say I love my new classes..I’m taking a full 18 credit hour schedule (which includes my first online class ever). My favorite classes so far include my speech class and my human rights class :)

I cannot wait for the ultimate road trip at USF! Even thought I have already visited Washington DC, I am really hoping we end up going there this year. I love Washington DC, the city is beautiful and there are plenty of free activities to do.

Speaking of free..if you still haven’t read the Hunger Games books, head over to a public library and check them out!

I read this AMAZING book series last year and I can’t wait for the movie release =] I convinced my two roommates to read them and they are now also  in love with the series! Take my word for it and check these books out.

Here is the website: http://www.scholastic.com/thehungergames/

One last thing! Don’t forget to start looking for scholarships and applying!

A Visit From Santa and Santa’s Little Village!

Lately, it has been getting colder and colder and typically by now, I start to get a little depressed from sunshine withdraw. Thankfully, this year I’m showing no sign of sadness!

Along with the experiencing the first snowfall of the year, I got the chance to participate in Santa’s Little Village this year! The USF Education department hosts this program every year. They invite students from nearby elementary school and put together Christmas activities for them. This year’s program was a blast!

Who knew Nate was such a good artist?
Grace and Micheal pose by Santa :)

The activity was "Snowman Bookmarks"

I even found an Alumni’s post about Santa’s Little Village from a few years ago. It’s great that we have kept this tradition going at USF.

It’s been a few years since I’ve seen Santa before Christmas but this year he decided to surprise my friend and I!

Sydni and Santa!
He visited us to make sure we weren’t studying too much and to invite us to SAC’s study break. We decided to take his advice and stop by for a while.

Molly entered her gingerbread house in the contest! :)

We love Santa :)

The study break was awesome, I’m so happy they had hot chocolate and yummy treats :)

Thank you to our SAC coordinators for putting everything together!

Meet my roommate…

Last year, my best friend Molly and I decided to room together. We decided to go against the common advice, “DON’T live with your best friend.” As it turns out the advice is wrong. Well most of the time. I feel like sometimes I’m laughing so much I can’t get any homework finished!

As Molly knows, I love my stuffed animal mini Edward which looks just like my real dog, Edward. On Monday, I came home and found my mini Edward was missing! Then I found these pictures on my camera. Along with the pictures, Molly had left a post-it note saying that mini Edward had growled at her so she had to hide him.

Of course I had to get a little revenge… Molly’s stuffed animal “Big Cat” didn’t stand a chance. I even recruited some help! :)

Upcoming Events

WOW, today is NOVEMBER 22, 2011! Where did my first semester in college go?! Like everyone on campus, I cannot wait for Thanksgiving Break and some pumpkin pie (yummmmm). This year I have so much to be thankful for, especially my friends! It was somewhat difficult adjusting to life away from home, but thankfully I had my friends here on campus to help me adjust. The homework workload was definitely at an all time high for me this past week, but it is all finished now thanks to my friends’ support. I am also very thankful to have awesome professors and an awesome adviser help me figure out a very confusing schedule!
And of course I am thankful for Student Activities Council for putting together some awesome upcoming events.. =]
